We are NOT breeders. This is all about the story of our beloved French Bulldog, Bruno.
Bruno joined our family at the age of almost five months. We bought him from a very reputable breeder of French Bulldogs with over fifteen years of experience who taught us how to care for him properly and set him up for a good life. He was a joy from the very beginning, providing wonderful companionship to our 8-year old Maltese, Franklin and our three daughters, as well as lively entertainment for our cat! He was a beautiful, mellow and playful boy, with a decidedly playful sense of humor.
A couple of years later, we met Harlee—a sweet, almost 2-year old Frenchie. Her living situation was not great and we had the opportunity to adopt her. Unfortunately, she was completely untrained. As a result, a couple of months later, we decided to send the new couple, Harlee and Bruno, to a 3-week residential training program. The training program had been recommended by a colleague who had contracted the trainer for several of her dogs. We received updates and pictures of the dogs, and things seemed to be going very well.
On the day we were supposed to pick them up, we received a call from the trainer stating that Bruno had developed some breathing difficulties and that he’d just died in the veterinary emergency room. Needless to say, we were completely shocked and horrified by this news. We rushed to the animal hospital, where the veterinarian told us that she strongly suspected heat stroke, as his core body temperature was just over 109 degrees when he arrived. This occurred during a heat wave, and the necropsy reports confirmed heat stroke as the cause of death. Our sweet boy was left outside during a heatwave and he succumbed to heat stroke!
I won’t go into more details, but suffice it to say that our family fell into deep mourning. A couple of weeks later, we were surprised to found out that Harlee was pregnant! Very soon thereafter, Harlee gave birth to her and Bruno’s beautiful puppies! We feel so blessed to have this silver lining transpire out of this tragedy. We feel so blessed that we have these puppies—Bruno’s legacy.
We have painstakingly cared for these puppies from the moment they were born, when they weighed less than half a pound! We have also loved them from the moment they are born and we genuinely care for them like family members. This love doesn’t cease when a potential owner shows up. They have brought us so much amusement and joy. If we lived on a farm, we’d keep them all! Alas, we don’t, so we are looking for loving homes for our babies, where they can bring joy to their own forever families.
